Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial championship series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 post-season home runs, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
