Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated fury after Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and stated they should be detained and penalized "through capital punishment" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Content That Provoked the Controversy

The video footage, released on earlier this week, features six Democratic lawmakers who in the past acted in armed forces or defense positions.

"Similar to us, you all made an oath to safeguard and uphold this founding document," the lawmakers stated in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our constitution are not only from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can decline illegal orders, you have to decline improper directives. No one has to execute commands that violate the legal system or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Incensed Reply

The clip appeared to trigger a angry reaction from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he stated: "This is really serious, and Harmful to our Country. Their comments cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, House Democratic leader published a joint announcement condemning the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no role in this nation," they declared. "Congress members who were featured in the video all worked our nation with great loyalty and distinction. We strongly censure Donald Trump's offensive and harmful death threats against congressional representatives, and call on House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to make certain the security of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these extreme online messages and retract his dangerous discourse before he gets someone killed," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Firm Response

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a statement.

"We are veterans and security experts who love this United States and took an pledge to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they stated. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. No warning, pressure, or call for violence will prevent us from that important responsibility."

"The significant point is that the ex-president views it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to repeat the law," they added. "Armed forces members should know that we have their backs as they execute their oath to the national charter and responsibility to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "Every American must come together and censure the ex-president's calls for our death and partisan aggression. This is a period for moral clarity."

More Governmental Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's remarks and shared on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the President of the United States is demanding the capital punishment of elected officials."

He continued: "This constitutes an outright THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, every American – regardless of party – should condemn this without delay and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have prominent officials of Congress instructing soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly told the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the crime of treason" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a reporter, "Is the president want to kill members of Congress?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the official said. "There are active officials of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to individuals of the American armed forces, to current military personnel advising them to defy the president's legal commands."

She stated: "The sanctity of our defense system relies on the hierarchy, and if that system is violated, it can lead to people getting killed, it can lead to confusion, and that's what these members of Congress ... are essentially supporting."
