The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.

Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
