Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
