Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year following leading derogatory songs directed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
