Star Refutes Anti-Vaccine Views After Narrating Contentious Coronavirus Feature
The acclaimed actor has lent his narration to a new documentary that questions the legitimacy of vaccinations and lauds one-time government figure RFK Jr.
The Film's Contentious Basis
Named "Plague of Corruption," the film is based on a bestselling book published by a disgraced researcher, who became famous during the health crisis for claims that the virus was a result of a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's co-author, a producer, has previously authored books with far-right radio host Alex Jones. Heckenlively took to social media hailing Neeson's role in the project.
A Firm Rebuttal
Representatives for Liam Neeson have provided a statement pushing back against claims that he holds anti-immunization sentiments.
"Everyone can recognize that misconduct can exist within the medical sector, but that should never be equated to being against vaccines," the response reads. "Neeson has never been, and cannot be described as, anti-vax. His extensive work with the UN children's agency highlights his long-held support for public-health initiatives."
It noted that the actor was not involved in crafting the project's narrative and that concerns about its content are best addressed to the filmmakers.
Central Assertions Featured in the Documentary
As presented, the voiceover spoken by Neeson features several controversial points:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have called for "unconditional submission" to health authorities.
- It argues that "science has become dangerously politicised."
- Kennedy is featured stating, "The major issue with vaccines is that they simply are not safely tested."
- The film further attacks stay-at-home orders, claiming they caused psychological harm that resulted in thousands of lives.
- Regarding pandemic shots, it cites a perspective that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "hazardous tests."
Past Context and Recent Issues
It further cites a 2004 BBC documentary about HIV drug testing on children, which was afterwards the topic of a BBC apology by the network for editorial breaches.
Recently, Kennedy instructed the CDC to change its official position that there is no link between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This assertion is also referenced in the documentary, despite a recent study from the global health body stating no evidence has been found.
A Previous Statement of Support
Standing in contrast to the documentary's narrative, Neeson has previously expressed clear advocacy for vaccines in his role as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Two years ago, he described vaccines as "an incredible achievement," noting that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has lost sight of how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in history."
"Plague of Corruption" finishes with Neeson's voice proclaiming, "This isn't the finish of our narrative. It is the dawn of a new chapter."
