Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular series reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
